Downtown Reno Library Elevator News
Due to ongoing construction, the elevator at the Downtown Reno Library is currently not in service. Computers and restrooms are available on the main level for patrons who are unable to use the stairs, and staff can assist with retrieving materials from other levels.

Maker Supplies

While the library provides patrons with materials for weekly Quad projects, there are limited quantities of these supplies available. For most projects, patrons may only receive one item per day. However, if you would like to make additional items, you have the option of purchasing your own supplies.

Below are some sources for purchasing materials compatible with Quad equipment.

Please contact Brent at bcollamer@washoecounty.us to make arrangements if you want to create multiple items using your own materials. Often, there will be time during our regular Quad hours for these special projects, but the library still requires advance notice.

Buttons and Magnets

Our button makers were manufactured by American Button Machines. From them you can purchase button and magnet supplies in all the sizes compatible with our button makers.

Amazon.com also offers some button sets for sale. But if you are purchasing from Amazon, be sure you do not purchase Badge-a-Minit sets. These will not work in our machines.

Sublimation Blanks

When selecting a T-shirt or other textile item to sublimation print onto, you must ensure the fabric is at least 50 percent polyester, polypropylene, or a similar plastic based material--the higher the plastic content the more vivid the colors will be. Also, it is usually best to choose a light color, since sublimation printers cannot transfer the color white.

For other items (mugs, key chains, coasters, etc.), you must be careful to ensure the item is designated as a "sublimation blank"--indicating it is coated in a special polymer that is required for sublimation printing. You cannot buy just any ceramic mug, for instance, and expect it to work. Most sublimation blanks are only sold in bulk. Heat Press Nation offers many options.

Vinyl

The Quad's Roland GS-24 can cut sheets and rolls of both decal vinyl (used to make stickers) and heat press vinyl (which can be applied to tote bags and T-shirts). There is a wide variety of vinyl types, manufacturers, colors, and sizes. Here is what we generally order for the Quad:

Tote Bags

There are no special requirements for bags used with heat transfer vinyl. Most tote bags will work fine. However if you want to sublimation print onto a tote bag, make sure it is at least 50 percent polyester (or similar plastic-based material), and choose a light color.
