Marc Schachter found guilty of attempted robbery in September 2014.

Reno, Nevada. March 2, 2015. On Feb. 26, 2015, the Honorable Connie Steinheimer sent a strong message to repeat offenders when she labeled Marc Paul Schachter, DOB 4/5/67, of Reno, a habitual criminal for attempting to steal less than $100 worth of property from Walmart in June of 2014.

Schachter received a sentence of 25 years in prison with parole eligibility after five years, after a jury found him guilty of Attempted Robbery in September 2014. Schachter received this sentence under Nevada’s Habitual Criminal law, which imposes more severe punishment upon repeat offenders regardless of the severity of the most recent felony. He must also serve an additional concurrent term of one-to-four years in prison for the Attempted Robbery conviction.

Schachter has a felony criminal record dating back to 1986. He has spent a large portion of his adult life in prisons and jails primarily for theft-related crimes committed from New York to California. His nine prior felony convictions include an Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Burglary, two convictions for Grand Theft, two convictions for Vehicle Theft, and one conviction for Eluding an Officer. Schachter’s sentence as a career criminal will keep him out of our community for an extensive period of time.

Any questions should be addressed to Deputy District Attorney, Zelalem Bogale, at the District Attorney’s Office at 328-3200.
