Downtown Reno Library Elevator News
Due to ongoing construction, the elevator at the Downtown Reno Library is currently not in service. Computers and restrooms are available on the main level for patrons who are unable to use the stairs, and staff can assist with retrieving materials from other levels.

Jury convicts man of eight counts of sexual assault on a child and 2 counts of lewdness

Thomas Wray Herndon faces 10 life sentences.

Reno, Nevada. March 11, 2015. After a seven day trial in Department 3 of the Second Judicial District Court, a Washoe County jury found Thomas Wray Herndon guilty of eight counts of sexual assault on a child under the age of 14 and two counts of lewdness with a child under the age of 14.

The case involved three victims, who reported the abuse to authorities in July 2013. One victim reported the abuse started as early as 2000. The case was investigated by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office Crimes Against Persons Unit. The defendant confessed to several of the crimes.

The Honorable Judge Jerome Polaha presided over the jury trial and will sentence the defendant on Thursday, May 7, 2015. All ten counts carry life sentences.

Theresa Ristenpart represented the defendant, Deputy District Attorneys Nicole Hicks and Peg Samples represented the State.
