Downtown Reno Library Elevator News
Due to ongoing construction, the elevator at the Downtown Reno Library is currently not in service. Computers and restrooms are available on the main level for patrons who are unable to use the stairs, and staff can assist with retrieving materials from other levels.

Dr. Latessa will talk about what works and what doesn’t in reducing crimes.

Reno, Nevada. May 19, 2015. In an ongoing effort to better serve the community, Reno Justice Court has arranged for national expert, Dr. Edward Latessa from the University of Cincinnati, to come speak to the criminal justice community and general public regarding what works and what doesn't in reducing crimes committed by repeat offenders.  You are invited to attend for free or watch the speech live on Charter digital channel 193 or online from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Dr. Latessa will discuss the use of various tools based on scientific research to determine who should be released from incarceration and under what conditions. Dr. Latessa will offer insight on the use of drugs courts and other programs designed to rehabilitate defendants.  The Reno Justice Court, which currently operates five such problem solving courts, has arranged this speaking engagement to ensure the communities' resources are being used effectively and safely. 

Dr. Latessa has studied more than 600 criminal justice systems in 47 states and will summarize his findings on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Washoe County Commission Chambers.
