Moore-Montgomery sentenced to fifteen years

Monday, July 6, 2015.  Defendant Brandon Moore-Montgomery, DOB 2/25/95, was sentenced on July 1, 2015 in the killing of his father, before the Honorable Chief Judge Hardy of Department 15 of the Second Judicial District Court.   Moore-Montgomery, 20 years old, pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter with the use of a deadly weapon on March 27, 2015.  After taking evidence from both the State and the defense for more than five hours Judge Hardy imposed a sentence of fifteen years.

The sentence stems from an incident on June 12, 2014 in which Moore-Montgomery went to the home of his parents with a fully loaded .25 caliber handgun.  During a domestic dispute between his mother and father, Moore-Montgomery pulled out the handgun and shot at his father seven times, striking him 4 times.  Three of the bullet wounds were located in the decedent’s head and one gunshot in the upper arm.  Moore-Montgomery fled his parents’ home immediately after the shooting, prior to police arriving.  The Washoe County Sheriff’s office conducted an intensive search for the defendant’s whereabouts.  The defendant eventually turned himself in the following evening at the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

The decedent’s two surviving children, who reside in Oregon, their mother and the decedent’s father attended the sentencing.  Brandon Moore-Montgomery will be parole eligible after serving five years in the Nevada State Prison.
