Sandbags available at several locations throughout Washoe County.

Reno, Nevada. July 8, 2015. Washoe County roads crews are busy cleaning and clearing debris from streets that were impacted by flash flooding the past the couple of days. Washoe County crews are working in several areas, including Spanish Springs, East Sparks, and Lemmon Valley.

“We spend tens of thousands of dollars on weed abatement and sediment clearing which usually causes clogging in the drains,” said Operations Division Director Eric Crump. “Our crews clean roadside ditches and culverts throughout the year, but as much as we prepare for storms like this, large amounts of water can easily overwhelm the drainage system.”

The following locations are offering sandbags:

  • Washoe County Operations Yard, 3101 Longley Lane, Reno
  • Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Station #17, 500 Rockwell Blvd., Spanish Springs
  • Lemmon Valley Volunteer Fire Station, 130 Nectar St., Lemmon Valley
  • At Idaho St. and Lemmon Drive (South side of Lemmon Drive), Lemmon Valley.

All of the sand is in an open area and available 24 hours a day. We recommend the public bring their own shovels, take what they need but be respectful of others needing sand as well. If the bags and/or sand are getting low, please call Washoe County Roads at 775.328.2180.
