Judge David Hardy becomes one of 73 new ALI members inducted in October 2015.

Reno, Nevada. Nov. 19, 2015. Second Judicial District Court Chief Judge David Hardy has been elected to the prestigious American Law Institute (ALI).

ALI is a national organization founded in 1923, following a study conducted by a group of prominent American judges, lawyers, and teachers known as The Committee on the Establishment of a Permanent Organization for the Improvement of the Law.

Judge Hardy is one of only 73 new ALI members inducted in October 2015.

“ALI’s members consist of distinguished legal scholars who are committed to improving the law. I am deeply honored to join my fellow ALI members and I am excited about contributing to its cause,” said Chief Judge Hardy.

The mission of the ALI is to promote the clarification and simplification of the law and its better adaptation to social needs, to secure the better administration of justice, and to encourage and carry on scholarly and scientific legal work.

For more than half a century, ALI has collaborated with the Uniform Law Commission in developing and monitoring the Uniform Commercial Code, a comprehensive code addressing most aspects of commercial law. Other ALI projects have resulted in the development of model statutory formulations, including the Model Code of Evidence and the Model Penal Code. ALI also publishes the influential Restatements of Law.

ALI members have the opportunity to work with legal academics, judges, and lawyers to impact the development of law in existing and emerging areas, which are influential in courts and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship and education.

Judge Hardy was appointed to the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County in January 2005.  He began his legal career as a law clerk at the Nevada Supreme Court and later returned as a principal staff attorney.  Judge Hardy received his Ph.D. in Judicial Studies from the University of Nevada, Reno, and is involved in many scholarly and publication endeavors.
