Denim Drive donations help pay for children’s clothing at Washoe County Social Services.

Reno, Nevada. Dec. 16, 2015. The Board of County Commissioners announced full support for the Reno Rodeo Foundation’s Denim Drive at Tuesday’s board meeting. The Denim Drive began Nov. 9, 2015 and concludes Dec. 16, 2015.

The Reno Rodeo Foundation’s Denim Drive is dedicated to the children and teens rescued from unsafe homes in 14 Northern Nevada counties.

Since 2006, the foundation has donated more than $360,000 in denim jeans, shirts, outerwear and socks for neglected children in foster care. The Denim Drive is committed to collaborating with state and county agencies that support foster care to provide emergency shelter to children in protective custody.

“We encourage everyone to donate to such a great cause. On behalf of the Washoe County Commission, thank you to the Reno Rodeo Foundation for the great work you do for the community,” said Washoe County Commissioner Jeanne Herman.

Community partners such as the State of Nevada Division of Child and Family Services, Washoe County Social Services, and others ensure that 100 percent of the financial donations to the Denim Drive are for the purchase of clothing throughout the year. With more than 100 collection locations, the community can support this non-profit organization through Dec. 16.

Clothes collected from the drive are kept at the Kids Kottage Emergency Shelter and the Washoe County Department of Social Services Medical Clinic, and these closets can be accessed all days of the year.
