Reno City Council will discuss and possibly approve settlement at Wednesday’s meeting.

Reno, Nevada. Jan. 26, 2016. The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District’s (TMFPD) Board of Fire Commissioners approved a settlement of the lawsuit between TMFPD and the City of Reno regarding fire services at Tuesday’s board meeting.

“This is an issue we have been working on for some time,” Commissioner Marsha Berkbigler said. “This settlement is not just beneficial in stopping litigation and spending litigation dollars to save taxpayer dollars. This settlement shows TMFPD and the City of Reno can work together. This was a big issue for Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve in resolving legacy issues. The Board of Fire Commissioners, our staff and attorneys can work very well with the City of Reno. This isn’t a ‘they won’ or ‘we won’ situation. This is in the best interest of both sides and the citizens of this area.”

The Reno City Council will review and possibly approve a settlement of the lawsuit between TMFPD and the City of Reno during its Wednesday, January 27, 2016 meeting at *2 p.m., time certain.

A press conference, which will include officials from the City of Reno and Board of Fire Commissioners, will be held on the first floor of Reno City Hall pending approval of the lawsuit settlement by both bodies.

* “Time certain” indicates that the specific item will not be heard before that time (not necessarily at that time).
