District Attorney's Office Warns Of Possible New Twist In Recent Scam

February 9, 2016

Reno, Nevada

The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office (WCDA) would like the media’s assistance with advising the public of a possible scam.  Similar warnings have recently been issued by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Washoe County Second Judicial District Court involving jury service and this may be a new twist.

The WCDA Investigations Division is following up on complaints received from several members of the public who reported receiving calls requesting payment of fees for failing to appear for court and to avoid the issuance of a warrant.  The caller was reportedly male and used the name of an actual DA Investigator when identifying himself.

The District Attorney’s Office does not charge the public for services related to appearances in court and does not solicit over the phone. Members of the public should be cautious when providing personal identification of any kind over the phone.  For questions about court appearances related to the District Attorney’s Office please call 328-3210.
