Reno Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Third Felony DUI Conviction

February 11, 2016

Reno, Nevada

The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office announced today that a Reno man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a felony conviction of driving under the influence of alcohol. This sentence is the maximum allowed by law and ensures the defendant will not be eligible for parole until he has served a minimum of 6 years in prison.

Patrick Kevin McKinnon (DOB 8/24/56) from Reno, was sentenced yesterday morning in Washoe County District Court to 15 years in prison for one count of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (DUI).  McKinnon had a documented blood alcohol level of .32 in this case and had two prior felony DUI convictions, as well as two prior misdemeanor DUI convictions.

The District Attorney’s Office filed the DUI charge against McKinnon in November of 2015, following his arrest by the Reno Police Department.  The case against McKinnon began on November 19, 2015 when he was involved in a motor vehicle accident with another person. Reno patrol officers, who responded to the accident call, determined that McKinnon was driving westbound on Moana Lane when he failed to stop his vehicle and rear-ended another vehicle.  While investigating the accident, officers noticed that McKinnon showed signs of intoxication and ultimately arrested him for DUI. McKinnon pled guilty to the DUI charge in December, 2015.
