Reno, Nevada. May 31, 2016. Dig in and have some hands-on fun with Washoe County and Glenn Duncan Elementary students and staff at the community garden ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at 1 p.m.

Washoe County has been a proud partner in education with Glenn Duncan Elementary since 2013. County staff has provided support for Glenn Duncan initiatives, such as mentoring opportunities and reading programs in the past. Funding to revamp the Glenn Duncan community garden is the latest project as a pivotal partner in education. County employees identified the Glenn Duncan garden as one of four community projects a couple of years ago and staff has been helping revamp the community garden since.

County staff have been working with faculty from Glenn Duncan Elementary to make the garden more attractive to students, volunteers and teachers by building garden beds, boxes, a greenhouse, fencing and gate shade structures.

“Washoe County values the opportunity to partner with schools in the community and invest in the next generation and the garden at Glenn Duncan proves great collaboration with the right people works well for all involved,” Washoe County Commission Chair Kitty Jung said. “This garden will not only be a tremendous place for children and staff to learn, but it will be a resource for the community, providing nutritious foods for families in the neighborhood.”
