Downtown Reno Library Elevator News
Due to ongoing construction, the elevator at the Downtown Reno Library is currently not in service. Computers and restrooms are available on the main level for patrons who are unable to use the stairs, and staff can assist with retrieving materials from other levels.

Hawken Fire is 20 percent contained.

Reno, Nevada. June 15, 2016. Updates from the Hawken Fire near Caughlin Ranch are below:

7:45 a.m. Hawken Fire remains 20 percent contained.

The Hawken Fire burned approximately 300 acres and is 20 percent contained Thursday morning. Crews are cutting lines and beginning to mop up. Air support is expected to help throughout the day. There are no structures threatened at this time and no evacuations are in place. Fire crews will be monitoring the burn area throughout the day for any hot spots.

8 p.m. Residents who were evacuated can safely return home

Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Chief Charles Moore said that volunteer evacutation has been lifted and residents effected by the Hawken Fire near Caughlin Ranch can safely return home.

Crews will be on the mountain throughout the night fighting the fire. Moore said there are no active flame fronts and the fire has spread to approximately 300 acres with 20 percent containment. 

About 250 were involved in fighting the fire from agencies across the area locally and regionally. About 180 are expected to continue work Thursday. For the latest updates, please check the TMFPD Twitter page. This is the final message being sent out for June 14.


6:15 p.m. RAVEN is joining in the fight against the Hawken Fire

Winds have died down enough to allow RAVEN to drop water until 8 p.m. Wednesday. There is zero containement on the fire.


5:45 p.m. Hawken Fire at 200 acres, call center has been launched for residents affected

Voluntary evacuations are still in place as the Hawken Fire is at 200 acres. If residents have any questions or concerns regarding the Hawken Fire and/or the Driscoll Fire, you can call 775-337-5800 for more information.


3:40 p.m. Hawken Fire at 100 acres

Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Chief Charles Moore said crews are working primarily to protect structures from the Hawken Fire. Crews from around the area and region are fighting this fire.


3:25 p.m. Truckee Meadows Fire working the Hawken Fire.

The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) and Reno Fire Department (RFD) are working on a 50-acre Hawken Fire near Caughlin Ranch off Hawken Road and Pronghorn Court. There are no mandatory evacuations. All evacuations are voluntary. An advisory evacuation (not mandatory) has been issued for Turning Leaf Way, Fox Creek Trail and Pinebluff Trail. 

Residents in the area who wish to evacuate can go to Reno High School. TMFPD and RFD have structure protection in place.

TMFPD Chief Charles Moore said the fire is being fought solely from the ground, as high winds in the area are preventing fire crews from using aircraft. TMFPD is the lead agency and has called for mutual aid using resources from local and federal agencies.
