TMFPD is hosting a pre-holiday safety briefing for our media partners.

Reno, Nevada. June 29, 2016. The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) is hosting a wildfire briefing for media at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016 at TMFPD Station 15, 110 Quartz Lane in Sun Valley. Given the severely hot and dry climate, and frequency of fire events this season, this is a unique opportunity for Chief Charles Moore to review fire coverage procedures and crisis communications plans for wildfire season.

TMFPD will be distributing a wildfire guide to the media to include the details that dispatch needs from any party reporting a wildfire, a glossary of commonly used wildfire terms, descriptions of the apparatus used on wildland events, procedures, contact information for the media, evacuation tips and a map of fire districts in Washoe County.

“The past few years have not been as active with wildfires and we expect this summer will be much different,” TMFPD Chief Charles Moore said. “Wildfires are a frightening event to experience. Our goal is to get pertinent information to the public. We know that the media is crucial to helping us do that. We want to make sure everyone understands the terminology and methodology we use when we attack a fire so that information can get disseminated correctly and efficiently.”

Chief Moore will also discuss tips for a fire-safe 4th of July, firearm safety, and other campfire and recreational safety tips to help prevent wildland fires over the holiday weekend and throughout the summer.
