County Commissioners Approve Proclamation

Friends of Washoe County Library Recognized at the October 18, 2016 Board Meeting.

Friends of Libraries groups have their very own national week of celebration!  National Friends of Libraries Week Oct. 16-22, 2016.

Founded in 1980, the Friends of Washoe County Library is a member-supported 501(c) (3) Nevada non-profit organization dedicated to advocating, fundraising, and providing support for the Washoe County Library. Friends of Washoe County Library help raise money that supports the libraries by providing the resources for additional programming, much needed equipment, support for children’s summer reading, and special events throughout the year and much more.

The work of the Friends highlights on an on-going basis the fact that our library system is the cornerstone of the community and provides opportunities for all to engage in the joy of life-long learning and connect with the thoughts and ideas of  others from ages past to the present.

The Friends’ gift of their time and commitment to the library sets an example for all in how volunteerism leads to positive civic engagement and the betterment of our community.  At the Board of County Commissioners meeting held on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 the Board unanimously approved the Proclamation recognizing the week of October 16-22, 2016 as Friends of the Library Week and urged everyone to join the Friends of Washoe County Library and thank them for all they do.
