Library Director Jeff Scott with members of the Library Board of Trustees and the Friends of Washoe County Library Board of Directors.

The Washoe County Library Board of Trustees acknowledged a $125,000 donation from the Friends of Washoe County Library and expressed that the generous donation demonstrates the continued support of Washoe County libraries, literacy, the arts and cultural enrichment throughout the community.  The mission of the Friends of Washoe County Library is backed by a belief that libraries are uniquely democratic, and promote, advocate, and seek funding to support the services, programs, and collections of Washoe County Library System.

Founded in 1980, the Friends of Washoe County Library is a member-supported 501(c)(3) Nevada non-profit organization dedicated to advocating, fundraising, and providing support for Washoe County Library System.  They offer the community a chance to invest in the success of the Library by donating funds or volunteering.  They raise money and their voices to ensure a first-class public library for all Washoe County residents. From their Board of Directors, enthusiastic members, generous donors, to their extraordinary volunteers and the thousands of people who benefit from the free programs and art galleries supported by the Friends of Washoe County Library, they are what the name implies: a collection of committed and caring friends, committed to a shared vision of a free public library that will remain accessible to all for generations to come.
