Nevada Athletics representatives visit winners of the 1st Wolf Pack Coaches Challenge

RENO, NV- Healthy choices . . . those are what Washoe County School District elementary school students have been making during the first annual Wolf Pack Coaches Challenge. Over the last few weeks, Nevada Wolf Pack coaches and athletes have been visiting winning classrooms at each grade level congratulating them on their impressive efforts and encouraging them to continue healthy habits with nutrition and exercise.

The inaugural year of the Coaches Challenge program drew over 270 students and teachers from four elementary schools. Participants ate thousands of servings of fruits and vegetables, and spent hours upon hours exercising through play during the program to earn points for their class!

This year's winning classrooms teachers and participating coaches are:

  • Pre-K and K: Anne Noel, Lemelson STEM Academy visited by Vince Hug and Jordon Simmons from Wolf Pack Football
  • 1st Grade: Michelle Mintz, Incline Elementary School visited by Brendon Bray from Nevada Women's Swimming
  • 2nd Grade: Pam King, Lemelson STEM Academy visited by Vince Hug and Jordon Simmons from Wolf Pack Football
  • 3rd Grade: Gilly Bartlett, Van Gorder Elementary School visited by Lee Nelson from Nevada Women's Volleyball
  • 5th Grade: Kerrian Neu, Incline Elementary School visited by Brendon Bray from Nevada Women's Swimming
  • 6th Grade: Le Anh Eigenman, Lemmon Valley Elementary School visited by Erin Otagaki, Parrissa Eyorokon, and Katie Osterman from Nevada Women's Soccer

The Wolf Pack Coaches Challenge is a partnership between the Washoe County School District, Nevada Athletics, and the Washoe County Health District (WCHD). WCHD planned, implemented, and oversaw this program with the aim to improve nutrition education and increase physical activity for elementary school students in the community. Over the course of the program, elementary classroom teachers used lesson plans from the Coaches Challenge playbook to educate students on the importance of healthy eating habits and exercise. By tracking their fruit and vegetable intake, in addition to their physical activity output during the Challenge, classrooms earned visits from Wolf Pack coaches and athletes.
