WCDA's Office Warns of Possible Scam Calls

The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office (WCDA) would like to advise the public of a possible scam.  Similar warnings were issued in February, 2016 by this office, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Washoe County Second Judicial District Court.

The WCDA Investigations Division is following up on complaints received from several members of the public who reported receiving voicemail messages advising them of a missed court appearance and requesting a return call.  The caller used the name of an actual DA Investigator when identifying himself, claiming he was a “Court Investigator with the Washoe Sheriff’s Department.”  The caller also stated he was with the superior court of Nevada and left a return number of (775) 300-6074.  While no fees or payments were solicited, the information in the message is false and similar to common scams for payments to avoid court related fines or warrants.

The District Attorney’s Office does not charge the public for any services and does not solicit over the phone. Members of the public should be cautious when providing personal identification of any kind over the phone.  For questions related to a call received from the District Attorney’s Office or to verify information please call the WCDA’s Office Investigations Division at 321-4300.
