Felony Domestic Battery Prosecution Results in Conviction

The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office secured a conviction in a domestic violence trial that began Monday in district court after a Washoe County jury returned a guilty verdict yesterday afternoon.  The defendant was convicted of a felony domestic battery charge stemming from a November, 2017, incident in which he attacked his 59 year old girlfriend.  Sentencing is set in May of this year and the defendant faces up to five years in prison. Probation is not a possibility in this case.

Christopher Aaron Fore, 41, was arrested on November 22, 2017, by the Reno Police Department after they responded to a citizen hail near East 4th Street.  The citizen reported a possible domestic violence situation and the officers directed their attention to Fore and his girlfriend who were walking East on 4th Street.  At that time, the officers witnessed Fore place the victim in a headlock and forcibly pin her against an adjacent building.  The officers intervened and after a brief investigation placed Fore under arrest for domestic battery. Both officers later testified that the attack appeared to be unprovoked.   

At trial, the victim denied the occurrence of the battery and the existence of a domestic relationship with Fore.  However, the prosecutor was able to present officer testimony about the battery and evidence of recorded conversations between the victim and Fore that established their relationship. The recorded conversations also evidenced Fore’s attempts to persuade the victim to testify falsely and to dissuade her from appearing for court. 

The case against Fore underscores the challenges associated with prosecuting cases involving domestic violence and working with victims of this type of abuse.
