Reno, Nev. April 27, 2018. – The Washoe County Health District (WCHD) has released the “2018 Washoe County Chronic Disease Report Card,” the most current and available information about chronic disease and their risk factors for Washoe County, Nevada, and the United States. Click here to access the full report.

A chronic disease is a long-lasting illness that can be managed, but not cured completely. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), chronic disease are among the most common, costly and preventable of all health problems in the United States. Examples include heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. Many chronic diseases are linked to modifiable risk factors of poor nutrition, physical inactivity, and tobacco use and exposure.

“The intent of this report is to provide a summary of chronic diseases and their risk factors in Washoe County and to serve as a source of currently-available chronic disease data. It is also intended to provide local health care providers, chronic disease practitioners, and other interested persons and programs with data they may use in their work to improve the health of Washoe County”, said District Health Officer Kevin Dick.

The Chronic Disease Prevention Program at the Health District works on reducing chronic disease in our community by offering resources for individuals, parents, businesses, and medical practitioners.  Visit www.GetHealthyWashoe.com to learn more.
