TMFPD Crews Deploying to the Rhea Fire

Reno, NV. April 14, 2018. TMFPD Crews have deployed to assist with wildfires in Oklahoma and New Mexico.

Truckee Meadows Fire has deployed a Type 3 Brush Engine and crew to the Rhea Fire in Dewey County, Oklahoma. Crews are reporting to the Incident Command Post in Leedey, Oklahoma, where the fire is reported at nearing 300,000 acres and burning in red flag conditions, comparable to the size of the Thomas Fire that burned in California last December. Several other large fires are burning in dangerous fire behavior conditions in the area. On Friday one TMFPD Firefighter/Paramedic deployed to the Diener Fire as a medical unit leader, where approximately 1,000 acres are burning in New Mexico. Truckee Meadows Fire Crews are expected to be on the assignments for as long as 21 days.

"A wind event is forecast in the Truckee Meadows this weekend but temperatures will be low and some moisture is expected," Fire Chief Charles Moore said. "Truckee Meadows Fire has prohibited pile burning in the District for the weekend as a safety precaution."
