Pile burning temporarily re-opens for this weekend only

Reno, Nev. May 17, 2018. With recent heavy rains in the region, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) has announced they will allow pile burning of green waste this Saturday and Sunday, May 19-20, only.

What: Pile Burning Temporarily Re-Opened

When: This Saturday & Sunday, May 19 & 20, from 6 a.m.-2 p.m. only

Pile burning will close again after this weekend

Who: TMFPD, permits available online at: https://www.washoecounty.us/tmfpd/index.php

To obtain a burn permit at no charge, please visit the TMFPD website at https://www.washoecounty.us/tmfpd/index.php.

“There are a number of rural property owners who have not been able to take advantage of green waste recycling. I want to take the opportunity to leverage the recent precipitation and re-open pile burning this weekend,” says Chief Charles Moore. “I urge property owners to manage their burns safely. Nearby thunderstorms can produce outflow winds even if low winds are forecasted, so please be mindful and take precaution. All piles should be fully extinguished, cold and wet by 2 p.m.”

Chief Moore would also like to ask citizens to be mindful of smoke columns that may be visible. Only green waste may be burned and there is no open burning allowed in the hydrographic basin. For questions about burn permits and to ensure conditions are safe to burn, please call Washoe311 by dialing 3-1-1 from any phone.
