RENO, Nev. – Tianyu Arts & Culture, Inc. is pleased to announce that the Dragon Lights Reno Chinese Lantern Festival will debut in Reno for a five-week exhibition this summer, from June 30 to August 5, 2018, at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden and is presented by Washoe County and the May Arboretum Society. Dragon Lights Reno is an Artown featured event.

Dragon Lights Reno is an international touring festival of enlightening exhibitions that provide a globally-cultural entertainment experience to millions of guests around the world. The exhibition will feature 39 larger-than-life vibrant Chinese Lanterns. Each lantern display has been handcrafted by artisans from China who master the skill of lantern making through an apprenticeship, and it is this group of people who keep this centuries-old tradition alive. This amalgamation of light, art and entertainment is intended to thrill, educate and illuminate the guests.

Each night there will be guided tours available at 7:30 p.m. and at sundown “Magic Hour” will occur, where each lantern will be turned on one-by-one and its history will be shared. In addition to lanterns, the event will also feature cultural entertainment, nightly performances, traditional handicrafts, a time traveler photo booth and themed nights.

Dragon Lights Reno is the first festival of its kind in northern Nevada, where light, art, and cultural events will provide an opportunity to explore both the ancient culture of China while learning about China today.

Dragon Lights Reno Chinese Lantern Festival is a ticketed event and is open nightly to the public from June 30 to August 5, 2018. About Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden: Open year-round and located inside Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno, Nevada, the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden was designed on three acres of former ranchland in 1986. The Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden is 23 acres comprised of specialty gardens, outdoor courtyards, tree groves, wetland habitats and a living plant museum with over 4,000 native and adaptive plant species on display. It is located in a transitional zone between the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Great Basin Desert. The garden averages only 4 to 8 inches of precipitation annually, which comes in the form of rain or snow. A short growing season, less than 120 days, and at an elevation of 4,600 feet, the gardens' daily temperatures can fluctuate 40 degrees or more in a single day. The Arboretum's mission is education, research, conservation, and to demonstrate how introduced plant species and native plants grow in a high desert environment. The Wilbur D. May Arboretum & Botanical Garden is a member of the American Public Garden Association (APGA) and a certified Level II Arboretum through the Arb Net Program administered by the Morton Arboretum of Registered Arboreta, Lisle, IL. It offers a combination of science and aesthetics and provides displays of native and adaptable plant species, shrubs and wildflowers.
