Foothill Fire Station will serve southern Truckee Meadows region

Reno, Nev. July 17, 2018.  On Saturday, July 21, at 10 a.m., Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) will celebrate the opening of a new fire station in the Foothill / South Meadows area providing fire and rescue services to the southern Truckee Meadows region.

Station 14 replaces a 30-year old facility that closed in June, and is the third TMFPD station to be built in the last six years.

“The previous station had outlived its useful life,” said Fire Chief Charles Moore.  “In fact, the equipment bays would flood during major storm events, and firefighters had to go outside to get their gear and equipment.  The new modern station will provide a better strategic location for our firefighters to operate from,” he said.

The 10,000 square foot fire station was operational on June 11 at a cost of $5.4 million.  Currently, the station will house 4 firefighters and was built to accommodate growth and additional firefighting staff.

“Additionally, the station’s landscaping reflects what defensible space should look like,” said Chief Moore.  “We want to be the model for people when they design their home’s landscaping.  Take a look at one of our new stations; it's exactly the way defensible space should look.”
