WCDA's Office Releases Recent Trial Update

The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has announced a guilty verdict in a recent trial involving driving under the influence. The defendant, Clyde Veal, 35, was convicted of one count of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol With Prior Felony DUI (Felony)last week and will be sentenced on September 26, 2018 in Department 7 of District Court.

Veal was arrested on October 20, 2017 after the Sparks Police Department (SPD) responded to a report of a possible drunk driver in the area of Greenbrae Drive in Sparks.  When contacted by SPD officers, Veal displayed numerous signs of being intoxicated and was arrested following a standardized field sobriety test. A criminal history check revealed that Veal had a third time felony DUI conviction in 2009.  In Nevada, any subsequent DUI conviction is charged as a felony.

At trial, Deputy District Attorney Dianne Drinkwater established that Veal had a blood alcohol level of .186.  Veal faces up to 15 years in prison and up to a $5,000 fine as a result of this conviction.
