The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District is hosting Avalanche Training this week on January 27TH, 28th, 30th, 31st and February 1st along with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, and Mount Rose Ski Patrol. The training will be held at the Mt. Rose Ski area main lodge parking lot, 22222 Mt. Rose Highway Reno, NV 89511.

The training will entail a simulated burial and first responders will be tasked with organizing the rescue, establishing communications, defining staging areas, and organizing personnel utilizing industry standardized practices. “This annual refresher training allows agencies to review, practice and participate in hands-on avalanche training drills utilizing a practical scenario that replicates rescue situations,” said Engineer Dave Melkonian, who coordinates this annual training.

In the event of extreme weather or unforeseen events, the training event may be cancelled or rescheduled.
