Warm Springs/Palomino Valley Fire Adapted Community Meeting

Reno, Nev. Feb. 19, 2020. Now is the time to prepare for the wildfire season! Join the Warm Springs/Palomino Valley Fire Adapted Community Chapter for a kick-off meeting on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 29 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Ironwood Events Center, 5600 Whiskey Springs Rd.

The event, held in conjunction with the Palomino Valley Volunteer Fire Department, will provide opportunities for area residents to learn about fire prevention and community risk reduction tools and tactics to better prepare for wildfires. The program will also highlight the Nevada Network of Fire Adapted Communities and the newly formed Warm Springs/Palomino Valley Chapter.  The 2018 Perry Fire in Palomino Valley inspired a group of concerned citizens to organize a Fire Adapted Community Chapter.  The Nevada Network of Fire Adapted Communities’ mission is to foster the widespread occurrence of Fire Adapted Communities where Nevadans living with the threat of wildfire fully prepare themselves, their homes and the landscape where they reside to survive the destructive force of wildfire.

Speakers and participants include representatives from the Department of Homeland Security, Truckee Meadows Fire, Nevada Division of Forestry, Washoe County Emergency Management and Regional Animal Services, Community Emergency Response Team, Living with Fire Cooperative Extension, and more.

Contact: Maeve Ambrose at 775-240-3675.
