Washoe County, Reno listed in ‘Yellow Zone’ for COVID-19 cases and deaths
COVID-19 Incident Management Team Supports the Governor, Federal Policy Recommendations

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional COVID-19 Incident Management Team is supporting and implementing White House Task Force recommendations to preempt exponential COVID-19 community spread.

Washoe County as a whole and the Reno metropolitan area were localities identified to be in the “Yellow Zone,” which means that cases of COVID-19 reported here last week were between 10-100 per 100,000 population and that COVID-19 test positivity was between 5-10 percent. The “Red Zone”, a category for which Clark County falls into, had cases reported above 100 per 100,000 population and test positivity above 10 percent.

The Regional Information Center is reminding residents to adhere to following, Governor Directives, Federal and State recommendations:

  • Wear a mask at all times outside the home and maintain physical distance
  • Limit social gatherings to 25 people or fewer
  • Use take out, outdoor dining or indoor dining when strict social distancing can be maintained
  • Protect anyone with serious medical conditions at home by social distancing at home and using high levels of personal hygiene
  • See updated regional business guidelines

The Regional COVID-19 Incident Management Team (IMT), which makes up members of the Cities of Reno and Sparks, Washoe County, the Washoe County Health District (WCHD) and other agencies, already has instituted some of the recommendations including robust COVID-19 testing strategies to the public, first responders and workers in assisted living and long term care facilities.

WCHD has also hired 29 contact tracing staff, nine nurses, nine call center staff as well as other staff to help with administration and COVID-19 testing, in addition to support from the Nevada National Guard. WCHD also operates a COVID-19 Call Center with REMSA and has configured an automated tool to help with COVID-19 test scheduling and results reporting.

COVID-19 testing is available to all Washoe County residents. To sign up for a COVID-19 test, fill out this risk assessment form and schedule a test online. The form is also available in Spanish here, or you can call 775-328-2427.
