Due to ongoing construction, the elevator at the Downtown Reno Library is currently not in service. Computers and restrooms are available on the main level for patrons who are unable to use the stairs, and staff can assist with retrieving materials from other levels.

Washoe County Utilities to remove flood barriers on Arkansas Drive on Monday

Lemmon Valley residents should be aware of crews and trucks on roadway

Reno, Nev. August 21, 2020 - Starting this Monday, Aug. 24, Washoe County Community Services Department Utilities crews will be begin the final demobilization of all the remaining HESCOs (flood barriers) on Arkansas Drive in Lemmon Valley. This effort will be the first step in repairing Arkansas Drive in order to reopen it to vehicle traffic from Lemmon Drive. See map for specific locations.

On Monday, Aug. 24, crews will begin saturating the barriers with water trucks as an additional step to reduce the dust that is generated during HESCO removal.
Starting Tuesday, the crews will be begin the removal of the HESCOs.
Expect to see heavy equipment operations on Red Pine, Chesapeake, and along Arkansas with dump trucks, water trucks, backhoes and crew vehicles operating throughout the duration of construction.
Water trucks will be used continuously throughout the project in order to minimize dust generation. Washoe County CSD will be working with Washoe County Health District AQM group to ensure compliance.
We anticipate construction activities will run through the end of Tuesday, Sept. 8.
The HESCOs will be removed first, and residents should expect to see large debris and HESCO soil piles being left on and around Arkansas Drive for a few days.
After HESCO demolition is completed, the remainder of the debris and HESCO fill soil will be hauled away.
Washoe County anticipates completing this operation by Tuesday, Sept. 8, but other efforts, such as fire suppression requiring water trucks, may extend the time frame.

It should be noted that Arkansas Drive will not be in a condition to be reopened after the HESCOs are removed, however Washoe County intends to patch and seal Arkansas in the coming weeks to allow it to reopen to vehicles again.
