Program offered through the rest of 2020

Reno, Nev. Sept. 17, 2020. Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) participants from both Washoe County Health District and Community Health Alliance will now be offered a new pick up option for groceries through the end of the year.

The new WIC Shopper Program provides a limited contact pick-up option from multiple locations around the community. The program, in collaboration between the Washoe County Health District, Community Health Alliance and Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada, began this week and runs through Dec. 31, 2020.

WIC benefits had not been eligible for online ordering or curbside pickup that many grocery stores offer. Families have been required to purchase necessary food items in the store which has led many to either not redeem their benefits or feel like they are risking their family’s safety. The WIC Shopper Program will provide a limited contact shopping and pick-up option for these families.

“COVID-19 has impacted us all in many different ways and during this stressful time we are pleased to be able to offer a safe shopping alternative for our WIC families,” said Erin Dixon, Public Health Supervisor for the Washoe County Health District. “We encourage all Washoe County families to reach out and see if they qualify for WIC.”
