District Health Officer, Epidemiology Program awarded for COVID-19 efforts

Reno, Nev. Sept. 25, 2020. The Washoe County Health District was recognized by the Nevada Public Health Association (NPHA) this week for going “above and beyond” and having a positive impact on public health in the state.

District Health Officer Kevin Dick was named a Public Health Hero for work on the COVID-19 response, which is a special recognition to acknowledge individuals who made a significant impact on the public health of Nevadans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Health District Epidemiology Program was recognized under the category of Public Health Program, which constitutes a public health program, agency, or organization in Nevada that has made a significant contribution to improving public health in the state throughout the year.

“It’s an honor to have the Washoe County Health District be recognized by NPHA at their annual conference,” Dick said. “COVID-19 has put a spotlight on public health in 2020 and we take great pride in having an amazing staff, both in the Epidemiology Program and throughout the Health District, who have stepped up and worked tirelessly during a time of unprecedented challenges.”

NPHA held their annual conference virtually this week and the theme was “Creating the Healthiest Nevada: Putting Prevention into Practice.” NPHA provides the opportunity for all public health professionals to participate in advocacy and contribute to health policy.
