Driver convicted on two counts for injuring two people

Charles Deichert has been convicted of two counts of felony Hit and Run Causing Injury following a jury trial, prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Aziz Merchant. The 56-year-old Sparks resident was found guilty after the evidence established that he side-swiped another car, causing the victim’s vehicle to roll several times before hitting a pole. The driver and passenger of the hit car both sustained injuries.

The crash involving Deichert took place in September of 2022 at the US395 southbound off-ramp at Clear Acre. Troopers with the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the area around 6:30 in the evening, where they found a small car laying on its roof on the shoulder. While speaking with the victims, troopers learned that the men had been driving on the freeway when they were hit by another car, running them off the road and causing their car to roll 4 times. The driver of the at-fault vehicle, later identified as Deichert, did not stop.

A witness to the crash followed Deichert and took a picture of his vehicle before sharing it with law enforcement. Troopers were then able to locate Deichert at his home following a registration check. When questioned, Deichert told troopers that he did not check lanes when going to exit the freeway, that this caused another car (the victim’s) to swerve, and that instead of stopping he continued to drive off.

Sentencing is set for September 27th before the Honorable Judge Egan Walker.
